In 1990 Vera Wang founded a design company that not only reflects her lifelong love of fashion, but also celebrates the romance, sensuality and spirit of modern young women.
A native New Yorker, Vera Wang grew up surrounded by fashion, often accompanying her mother to the world's most stylish boutiques. After a career in competitive skating and studies at Chapin and Sarah Lawrence, Vera Wang discovered her own love for design while at the Sorbonne in Paris. She joined Vogue and at age 23, making her the youngest fashion editor the magazine ever had. After 16 years, Vera moved on to Design Director of women's accessories for Ralph Lauren
It was her own marriage, however, that ultimately inspired her to start her own business. She introduced style and modernity to wedding gowns, creating the foundation for a luxury fashion brand that has since expanded into various related categories. Inspired by romantic brides and the excitement of a wedding day, Wang's fragrances hearken back to her bridal design roots. Still, no matter if she's debuting the season's hottest scent, perfecting a celebrity's wedding gown, or churning out trends to be seen in magazine spreads and on the streets, Wang is creating a lifestyle that is the epitome of luxury—always sophisticated and modern. In 2005, the prestigious Council of Fashion Designers of America named Vera Wang as Womenswear Designer of the Year. Vera Wang resides in New York City with her husband and two daughters.
Vera Wang's unique vision and talent have made her the most influential bridal designer in the world. Not surprisingly, her romantically feminine yet fiercely fashionable values have carried over into her fragrances. Each its own illustration of the modern elegance that defines the ever-growing empire, the scents allow all women to share in Vera Wang's dream—and fulfill their own.
| Looks like Vera Wang's dancing shoes are staying in New York for now. In June, the designer was rumored to become one of sixteen contestants on the next season of Dancing With the Stars, but she's not on the final list of dancers revealed this morning. Which also means that any chance of seeing a decent, wearable costume on that show is gone. [Us] |
